Busy Busy with school this week...
recipes used this week are from Hillbilly Housewife $45 emergency Menu

We spent $75 for two weeks but we had alot of the items
on the list already. We also purchased off brand, store brands :( but it really
wasn't about the price. I have most of the items she lists.

Monday
Pinto Beans added some onion/sausage without everything else and I made my
first loaf of homemade bread with my brand new Sunbeam bread machine.
Which was hard as a rock and my family bless them still ate it...lol
They love me for what reason I have no ideal. The crust was so hard that
I could've used it as a weapon...haha

Tonight is Bean Burrities with refried beans...... :O thats alot of beans... :0)
but I'm going to cheat and use some meatballs that I made a couple of weeks
ago and froze. I will cook them in salsa. Spread some beans on and then add some
meat/salsa mix. Top with cheese and onions and lets eat...lol

Tomorrow is Creamed Tuna & Peas over Rice
Garlic Toast which I will attempt to make garlic bread
in the machine :)

Thrusday is Black Bean Soup
Friday is Hot dog & Veggies over Ramen noodles
Saturday is Scalloped Tomatoes & Ham with some kind of bread
Sunday is Lentil and Veg soup W/ Dumplings

Gramarye

Hmm. “Sketchball” sounds dumb to me too, but that may be because I’m unused to “sketch” being used in the derogatory form apart from “sketchy.” However, I’m not sure I’d say that the reason you shouldn’t take Urban Dictionary seriously as a reference is that anyone can put anything in it; that’s true of Wikipedia as well, which I think should be taken very seriously. (Though no reference should be taken at face value without critical examination.)

Also, I find Urban Dictionary to be very useful for emergent terminology—it’s basically a proto-OED.

That said, I would certainly agree that the information obtainable on Urban Dictionary requires more than the usual amount of skepticism—but I think that’s to do with how people use the site, not with how the site itself operates.................

What we had for dinner~
Rice and Chicken with Cheese sauce made from
the cream of whatever soup & powdered cheese.
I used enough of the cream of whatever soup for two
cans and added two cheese ( powder) packets from the mac N cheese.
I used an additional 1/4 chicken broth per each packet added because
the box of mac-n-cheese directions said to add that much. One can of peas
one of sliced carrots.

So I used
1 3/4 cup rice
6 pieces of chicken
2 cans of soups
2 packets of dried cheese
1 can of peas
1 can of carrots

We had bread and butter on the side.
It wasn't bad and the hubby had seconds
so it wasn't that bad. :D

I still can't believe I can't find any recipes
using powdered cheese. :/

Lu Bozinovich-FF Farmer's Cheese (LACTO)

1/2 gallon (8 cups) skim milk
1 c dried skim milk powder (Carnation instant)
1/4 c lemon juice or white vinegar (I used the latter)
optional seasonings to taste
Heat up skim milk, and mix in the skim milk powder.
As mixture begins to simmer or boil, begin to add a little of the vinegar or lemon juice.
Stir. Keep the flame on, and keep adding and stirring until the milk solids *completely* separate from the whey (yellow watery part).
The amount of heat and acidity have to be in balance for this to work.
Drain in cheesecloth. Use as you would cooked burger meat -- for instance, flavor it and stuff green peppers with it. Oh, you might want to flavor it while still in the milk state -- with salt, pepper and herbs.

Dr. Gourmet Healthy Recipes
Snagged thoughts about cornstarch---->

Thickening Agents - Cornstarch
Cornstarch is actually a flour. It is the endosperm of corn kernels that has been dried and ground, much the same way that wheat flour is made (in England cornstarch is actually called cornflour). Like other flours, cornstarch makes a good thickening agent.
It is frequently used in Asian cooking and a clear sheen is typical of sauces thickened with cornstarch. When used in baking, it helps produce a finer texture as well as a silky sheen.
There is, however, little similarity to wheat flour when using cornstarch to thicken sauces. There are a few rules for using cornstarch properly:
It has twice the thickening power of wheat flour and it produces a clearer sauce.
When starting with an acidic liquid (juices, vinegars, wines), the thickening power will be about half.
It is best to mix it with water before incorporating it into a sauce, as it clumps easily.
If the sauce is overheated or overstirred, it will begin to breakdown and lose thickening power.

Looking for cheese-less recipes :-/

With money being so tight I've had to find ways to get around
the fresh potatoes and Cheese in everything.
Why oh God is it just so hard to find good stuff with no cheese in it.
I've given serious thought to buying those buying those cheap packages
of mac & cheese from aldi's I think they are like .22 cents or something like
that and using the cheese out of them and giving the noodles to the kids
for art projects. I hate buggies in my food and since most of the box items
I find at aldi's like the mac and cheese or the jiffy mixes at the stores seem
to have these I've steered clear of them. Since I've got nothing against the sauce
since it's in a sealed package of it's own I might try some conversion just to see
if it can be done.
I know there's a cheese sauce using make your own mix for the cream of soups. Which I'm going to start using next payday but the cheese sauce for it calls for shredded cheese to be added. Since it's more of a flavor thing in most things like casseroles I'm wondering if I might be able to fool my family into thinking there's cheese where there is none. Yes it's not healthy but look at it this way. Since it's powdered and the milk will be powdered it will be healther than real cheese plus I'm saving on the fat content.
Also I've been looking into buying diced dried potatoes or something to do the job for me. Part of the problem we have around here is that we go paycheck to paycheck like most of you and when it's near that payday our supplies are low or next to nothing. So I get stuck with coming up creative ways to fill those gaps.
I would love to be able to have eggs and potatoes or something like that. If I dried the potatoes out and keep them in ziplocks in the freezer until I needed them we'd have them at the end of payday and be able to have potatoes and onions...etc
Can you tell I've been reading the backpacking sites. I figured why not check where they need to keep it for awhile. Those who can do ...well do and those of us with little devils enjoy those who keep doing and sharing. So I'm off to see what I can find and if you happen to be one of those doers please feel free to share. I'm always looking for a couple of more minds than just mine to add to the mix.

Fun Baked Birthday Treats: "The traditional birthday cake isn’t the only yummy option you have when it comes to baked goods for your child’s birthday party. We have come up with some other ideas that are more than just a substitute for a birthday cake. They are creative, delicious and just plain different.

Decorate A Cookie

· Sugar Cookie Dough · Cookie Cutters · Wax Paper · Confectioner’s Sugar · Water · Food Coloring · Assorted candies · Colored Sugar (different colors) · Sprinkles

Prepare a batch of your favorite cookie dough, or purchase some refrigerated sugar dough. Roll it out and place it on the wax paper. Let the kids cut out cookies using the cookie cutter, then bake them according to the baking instructions for your dough.

Allow the cookies do cool. Prepare “Glue” by mixing the confectioner’s sugar with water to form a sticky paste. You can add food coloring to turn it into different colors. The kids can paint the cookies with this glue, then add candies sprinkles and colored sugar.

Allow them to dry and either let the kids eat them at the party, or place them in plastic bags so they can take them home after the party.

Magic Wands

· Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough · Star Cookie Cutter · Popsicle Stick · Confectioners’ Sugar · Hot Water · Food Coloring

Roll out the sugar cookie dough and cut using a star-shaped cookie cutter; bake according to package instructions.

As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, and are still soft to the touch, carefully push a Popsicle stick between any two points of the star. This makes the handle for your wand.

Frost the cookies with glossy icing. To make glossy icing, simply sift confectioners' sugar into a bowl. Slowly add hot water, while mixing, until it becomes a smooth paste. Add a few drops of food coloring to make extra colorful treats. These wand cookies are somewhat fragile, but they're delicious and a lot of fun to eat!

Angel Peppermint Bark: "If you love to make delicious treats for the holidays, then try this easy Angel Peppermint Bark. The secret to this candy is the white chocolate. Many similar recipes call for almond bark instead, but it produces candy that is somewhat waxy because of the paraffin content of the almond bark. Make this Angel Peppermint Bark with white chocolate and it will turn out smooth, rich, and creamy – and not waxy at all.

ANGEL PEPPERMINT BARK

1 lb. white chocolate, chopped into small pieces

6 candy canes

Peppermint oil (optional)

Small to medium angel-shaped cookie cutter (or other holiday-shaped cutter)

1. Line a small cookie sheet with wax paper and set aside.

2. In the top of a double boiler, melt white chocolate, stirring constantly.

3. Unwrap candy canes and put them in a large self-sealing plastic storage bag. With a meat mallet, pound candy canes into small pieces.

4. Stir the pieces of candy cane into the melted chocolate. Remove from heat, and pour the mixture onto the prepared cookie sheet; spread evenly. Chill until slightly firm, then use an angel-shaped cookie cutter and carefully cut the chocolate mixture into angel shapes. Chill the angels until completely set – 25 to 30 minutes.

VARIATION: If you don’t want to make the candy in angel shapes or other holiday shapes, you can simply chill the mixture on the cookie sheet until firm, then break into pieces, and serve. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

NOTE: Instead of a double boiler, the white chocolate can be melted in a microwave. Put the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes (at medium power). Take the chocolate out and stir. Put back in the microwave for 2 more minutes, then stir. Keep doing this until all the white chocolate has melted.

For a stronger peppermint flavor, stir in 1/4 tsp. of peppermint oil into the melted white chocolate and candy cane mixture before pouring the mixture onto the "

Home Made Ice Cream Recipe for Coffee Can Ice Cream: "Home Made Ice Cream Recipe

1 lb. Coffee Can
3 lb. Coffee Can
1/2 cup Rock salt
1 pint Half and Half
1 1/2 tsps. Vanilla
1/3 cup + 2 tblsps. Sugar

For flavored ice cream, choose one:

3 tblsps. of your favorite flavor of instant pudding
1/3 cup of fruit (such as, bananas, strawberries, peaches)
3 of your favorite cookies, crushed into pea-size pieces
1/4 cup finely chopped nuts

METHOD:

Mix the first three basic ingredients together and pour into the one pound coffee can. Add flavorings if desired. Place the lid on securely and set inside the three pound can.

Add ice, and alternate layers of ice and salt outside the small can and inside the large can. When totally full, secure the lid on the large can. You may wish to add duct tape for good measure.

Now here comes the fun part! Place a sheet on the floor or wrap the can in a large towel. Let party guests roll the can back and forth for at least 10 minutes. Open the cans and check the ice cream.

If it is not starting to freeze, replace lids and roll 10 minutes more. The ice cream should be frozen to the sides and bottom of the can. If not thick enough, place in freezer and check every 10 minutes or so.

YIELD: 2 cups ice cream

Note: This recipe can be effected by temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors, so make a trial run before attempting in a group setting.

Tutorial SmitfraudFix - Clean DesktopHijack-like infections under Windows XP or Windows 2000

Tutorial SmitfraudFix - Clean DesktopHijack-like infections under Windows XP or Windows 2000

SmitfraudFix, a tool for Windows 2000 and XP, has got 3 separate options:-

option #1 displays infected Smitfraudwise files (run option #2 in case of displayed files).-

option #2 deletes infected files and is to be run if option #1 showed their presence. This operation is to be performed in Safe mode.-

option #3 is independent and will be run to re-initialize the Trusted and Restricted Sites zones (O15 lines on a HijackThis log). This option must not be run by chance as protection information might be in this Restricted Site zone!

Given the recent random file names, this step must be part of an infected hard disk file removal procedure and a system cleaning by Ewido or similar.

Download SmitfraudFix.
Extract all the smitfraudfix.zip archive.

Option 1 - Search:Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt.

Option 2 - Clean:Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually).
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt.

Option 3 - restore Trusted and Restricted site zone:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter. You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone (lines HijackThis O15).process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes.
Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user (see Command Line Process Viewer/Killer/Suspender).

Newsgroup Tutorial~For those who don't use torrents
Those who never use torrents up your hand. I bet almost of you have used it. I’m going to introduce an alternative file-sharing technology that doesn’t employ peer-to-peer method. This technology allows you to utilize all the bandwidth that you have. Before you get too excited, I regret to tell you that this service comes with a little price to pay, but not too much though. If you have a superfast ISP, are a heavy downloader, and appreciate superfast download, Newsgroup is for you. There many lengthy guides on how to start using newsgroup if u ask Uncle Google but here, I’m going to write a summarized one for you. But don’t worry, I’ll provide the links if you need to read more about it.

What you need:
1. A newsgroup service provider
2. A program to download files from the provider
3. A file repairer (more on why you will need this)

1. A newsgroup service provider
The main difference newsgroup from p2p is the files (movie, games etc) are located on servers instead of your beloved peers. This explains why you have to pay for it. The great advantage of this is that you will have your bandwidth fully utilized no matter how wide your bandwidth is. If yours is 11 Mbps, you will likely to have 3000 KB/s download rate. I’ve achieved this speed when I was in my university’s network.

Currently the best offer among all providers is from http://forteinc.com/apn/index.php that cost you 15usd per month with unlimited download. It even gives you a free trial if you haven’t made up your mind.

2. A program to download files from the provider
There is nothing much to say about this. Basically, it’s like Azureus to bittorrent. My recommended program is Newsleecher which is easy to use and stable.

3. A file repairer
A file repairer is needed because unlike torrent, servers are not guaranteed to complete the transfer process, meaning that you will experience one or two missing files occasionally. With a file repairer, you can rebuild the missing file using standard algorithm named par file. Most of the files hosted by newsgroup are protected by par file. Recommended Software is Quickpar.

I have all of them, now what?
Now the fun part begin. To start download, you have to find the header file named nzb files. Nzb files contains the information that you need to start donwloading your data. I recommend these sites to search for nzb files
NZBsRus.com - One of the largest nzb indexer
NZBMatrix.com - nicer interface and lot’s of nzbs too

Now, open the file using nzb downloader and it will start the download in no time. After the download finished, double click the par file and it will check for missing files and will rebuild the missing files if necessary. Unrar your downloaded files and enjoy your new movies.

What is retention day?It is how long your newsgroup provider will keep the uploaded file in their server. Usually when somebody upload the file to server, the server will keep the files for certain amount of day. It’s depend your server policy on how long it will keep it.

You need more reading?
Heads to http://www.slyck.com/ng.php for Newsgroup 101 courses :p
So this ends my short introduction about newsgroup download.
I welcome your questions and comments.

This week's Menu, shopping list & Price Break down

Man this stuff takes some time. I never realized how much effort
you supermom's put into feeding your children/family on a budget.
With raising gas & food prices I have to do something and food is a great
way to start. So this is my effort to down scale our budget so that maybe
when school starts this year my daughter will have something besides last years
advanced buys/sales.

Menu for the week:

-Sunday-$7.60 or $1.90 pp for a family of 4
Meatloaf
instant potatoes
green beans

-Monday- $3.76 or $.94 pp for a family of 4
Creamy Tuna & Peas
Over Rice
Corn Bread

-Tuesday-$3.34 or $.83 pp for a family of 4
Pintobean Soup
Carrots
Onion
Ham
Corn Meal muffins W/cheese

-Wednesday- $5.28 or $1.32 pp for a family of 4
Speedy Turkey Enchiladas
Plain Rice
Corn

-Thursday- $6.99 or $1.74 pp for a family of 4
Stuffed Peppers
Fries

-Friday-$7.08 or $1.77 pp for a family of 4
Chicken & Noodles
Homemade Breadsticks

-Saturday- $3.74 or $.93 pp for a family of 4
Butter Bean Soup
Ham
Carrots
Onion
Corn Bread

Shopping List
1 bag Corn (frozen)
1 Bag Peas (frozen)
1 Dz eggs (med)
1 Butter (tub)
2 cans Peaches
1 cinnamon
15 cornbread mixes (on sale 5/$1) you could always buy a bag of cornmeal like I'm doing on my main shopping list & make from scratch. It's fast & easy. I got these because of sale & being lazy)
1-100 tea bags
2-plastic pitchers (dollar store or walmart should still have some for $1)
1-8oz tomato sauce
1 pk Corn Tortillas
1-chili powder
2-Cheese (always save-not real but oh well)
1-non stick spray
2-Frozen OJ
3 bags Green Giant baby cut carrots (on sale $.99)
8-Green peppers ( on sale 2/$1)
1-3# onions
1-15oz refried Beans
1-picnic ham shoulder (sent hubby for ham bone for beans and he came home with this instead not bad considering price $.78 per#~)
1-canned Chicken ( he was suppost to get sweet sue but came home with canned Valley fresh canned chicken @ $3.39 per 10oz Which means per oz it is .40 but on the up side it is white meat!)
1-Baking powder
1 Box butter (4 sticks)
1-bread crumbs
1-Green Bean (frozen)
1-Box of instant potatoes

Now this is from shopping at a combo of Aldi's and Homeland. Some items I already had mostly spices, rice, beans & noodles. If your completely bare, yours of course will cost more. We use instant nonfat dry milk to save money on milk. My family drinks it just like regular milk and since we use alot of milk I need that savings. If you need the recipe which is super dupper easy to mix up it will be posted soon. Otherwise most of the boxes have it already listed. Aldi's sells theirs for $7 per box. I buy two boxes or three depending on if I'm baking that week or not.
Also my husband eats like a horse so I have to figure atleast three people just for him. So when I do it for 4 it's really 7 because there is no leftovers at all. Whatever is left over gets put into lunch the next day. Me and my husband do not eat lunch. He's at work and I'm at home but not hungry. My kids eat breakfast & lunch and both are cheap. Cereal and juice mostly for breakfast and lunch is peanut butter and jelly or if there is something leftover from the night before they get that.

Now most of these ideals came from a wonderful site Hillbilly Housewife. I found her site along time ago when I was looking for ways to use beefstew and chili since it was on sale and I went over board and purchased so many cans of each that by the time we got done none of use wanted to see or hear either word for the rest of our lives. You would be surprised with the things you can do with both. I will have to post some of the recipes from that jaunt in the past. Scary let me tell you.
I will post the next two weeks menus in the next couple of days. My fingers are numb from typing and I want to watch the telly for awhile.
